Awesome, accessible Larch hike. In full vibrant yellow on Oct 9th! Went on a drizzly, holiday Monday - arrival at 11:45am, parking lot full (but it’s small, probably holds only 25 cars) plus ~10 parked along the road. Nice that this trailhead is RIGHT along highway 20. Saw maybe ~30 other parties throughout the day. Tons of dogs - maybe 20 or so - everyone on leash.
At the fork when you arrive at the lake, left is a narrower path that truncates fairly quickly, but will give you a secluded place to picnic with good views. Veering right at the fork will take you to the additional half mile loop, a big rock for fishing and picnics, and a bit more of a crowd. Great views over here too. Can’t go wrong! Blue Lake water was exquisitely blue, even on an overcast day.
