Trip Report

Dewey Lake — Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410

Overnight backpack at Dewey Lake was a pleasant surprise and we were very lucky with the weather.  There were numerous day hikers on the trail, especially around the large tairn.  We only came across one small blow down a little bit of mud headed down to Dewey Lake.  We also only saw a few day hikers on the other side of the lake once we started down the lake trail.  We basically had the lake to ourselves as well as being very lucky with weather conditions.  It only rained a tiny bit.  Campsites were in excellent condition.  Over by Little Dewey Lake there is a log block your path with a sign warning people away to allow vegetation to grow by the lake.

When we woke on Sunday morning we found the area cloaked in heavy fog/cloud cover.  It really set a whole PNW fall mood for our hike out.  I can't wait to go back again, especially this time of year.
