Trip Report

Mount Walker — Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

Arrived to the trailhead around 9:30am on a partly cloudy Saturday. Only 3 other cars at the trailhead, with space for a couple more. This hike is basically a bunch of steep inclined switchbacks for 2 miles up with little variation between them.

The first viewpoint at the top is nice, but I highly recommend following the road for another half mile to the south viewpoint. It's relatively flat so doesn't add much elevation gain to your trip, just a bit of distance. I spent a bit more time enjoying the south viewpoint. The hike back down is straightforward, but would recommend some poles for stability and to make it easier on your knees.

My Apple Watch clocked 5.21 miles, 2,089ft of elevation gain, and total time of 2 hours, 5 minutes.
