Lime Kiln Trail by Nj08540

I did this trail as the pic of water made me curious for fly fishing. However, at 1 hr and 20 minute drive, it’s more a local trail for locals like coal mine trail is for anyone in the Issaquah area.

It’s an easy 6-7 mile trail with a few spots where the moss hangs from the trees and it’s really mesmerizing. The signs were nice to give you distance. Really appreciated it. I wouldn’t classify this as moderate unless it’s to make people aware of the slick conditions due to mud, frost and leaves. Prior write up was right, walk with caution or else you’ll be on your Fanny faster than you can blink.

I rate the obstacles a bit harder than the previous post. I had to take my backpack off twice to get under the logs, and straddling icy logs (about 4) was a bit interesting. It’s as if WTA either doesn’t know there’s over 6 downed logs or doesn’t prioritize fixing it given lower traffic volumes. I walked by someone who hasn’t made it to the end because of the obstructions. He was asking me what the access to the water was like for fishing…

Dogs off leash are becoming the norm rather than exception it seems.

Sorry you had such a bad experience on that trail. WTA does work where the land managers ask them to. That trail could for sure use a saw team and definitely some drainage work. Snohomish County manages the land.

Like Muledeer said, if you'd like to see WTA volunteers out working on improving this trail please contact Snohomish County Parks. As the land manager responsible they control whether we can get out there at all, how many days we can spend, and what kinds of projects we'll work on. For instance you might have noticed that there were some railings broken on the big bridge. We can fix that, but it will require support and materials from the county, so let them know! 🙂

I don’t live in the area. I think the locals should be responsible to request improvements since they would frequent it the most. But it sounds like folk know the trail has challenges, it’s a matter of the right people contacting Snohomish County.
If I was close to there, I’d go and staple or tape a paper sign up at the trailhead to contact the county if they want improvements. And supply a QR code or website.

I have to agree that this is a 'locals only' trail - it's not worth driving far for. I live in the area, and once was enough for me.
