Frog Mountain — Monday, Nov. 20, 2023

I have no idea when Index-Gelena or Beckler Rd close for the season, but 11/21 I managed to sneak in and do Frog Mountain. I took the former in and the latter out and neither had snow or major obstacles.

I’m impressed with this new trail.. even with snow coverage I could tell it’s a nice wide trail with a gentle steady grade and good switchbacks. Beautiful views for much of the hike, especially enchanting in the snow.

Snow started almost immediately, though it was intermittent under the trees. I’m going to have to start bringing snowshoes on my hikes, I think. I was able to complete with without (I was happy to have gaitors though!) and didn’t encounter more than a foot of snow until the summit where I suddenly was postholing to my knees!

I couldn’t stay on the top long because I had a late start and was battling daylight, but I’m so happy I squeezed this one in!
