Big Creek — Monday, Dec. 11, 2023

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

I hiked this trail for the first time with my three year old. I didn’t expect much, but I was absolutely amazed! This trail is so well maintained, and you can tell a lot of thought was put into making it. There are several drainages throughout the trail, so there is practically no mud. Pretty much the entire time, you are surrounded by the crashing sounds of the water. There are so many bridge/creek crossings and little waterfalls. And another thing that makes this trail more interesting is that there aren’t any switchbacks. My toddler loved this trail too. The bridges and small patches of snow were enough to keep her interested. We did the loop counterclockwise. There are only a few parking spots and the gate is up so you can’t drive into the campground. When you walk into the campground, you’ll see a sign on the left pointing to the 1 mile trail that makes a short loop.We went down there and then the Big Creek trail intersected with it. There is plenty of signage to keep you going on the right track. My phone clocked us in at 6.5 miles. Not sure if that was accurate or not. And there was small patches of snow near the top, but nothing significant.

I can’t wait to come back!
