Deception Creek — Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Deception Creek by kabori17

Arrived 10:20a on a Sunday (NYE). No one in parking lot and didn't see anyone when we returned by 2p. Hike to the first camping area (per map) was just beautiful. So green! Tree branches down on the path but only 2 trees to climb over. The river was roaring and blue skies between clouds were lovely, 40-45 degrees and dry despite the wet drive East. Intermittent snow and snow melt running on the trail to the camp area, passable with kids (ours are 10/8) and multi terrain shoes. More climbing then expected. Our goal was the second bridge. After camp area we had to piece together the trail between cut logs. Snow was up to knee deep. Not fresh but had not be traversed. Turned around when we could see second bridge because the kids were cold, everyone was wet. Ate at the camp area out of the snow. Can't wait to check it out again in the spring. Short bumpy road from highway should be fine for all cars going slow.
