The freshly repaired forest road is a dream. No more crater sized potholes. I forgot how wet this hike is, it's been a while since I was up to mountain loop.
Snow began on trail about halfway up, it was slush. If you plan do to this one next weekend be careful of all that water turning to ice with the cold snap. As you dip into the lake basin it turned to compact powder. Didn't see any avalanche danger on the way up, no snow debris. To my novice eyes anyway.
Still testing my gear, I wore Snowboard pants and a down jacket this time. It was way too warm on the way up but it was the BEST once at the lake, I probably stayed for almost an hour, impervious to cold.
