Trip Report

Killebrew Lake Wildlife Area Unit — Monday, Jan. 1, 2024

Puget Sound and Islands > San Juan Islands

This is a short mostly level trail around Killebrew Lake listed as a hunting area part of the year. A nice option if you have some spare time or want to stretch your legs while waiting on the ferry.
There is parking for a couple cars at both ends and even a small beach. The trail is best accessed from the intersection of Dolphin Bay Rd and Killebrew Lake Rd. However the trail here may be flooded as it goes through a wetland. In this case, the trail can be accessed from a small pull out at the gate just west of the lake. From this trailhead, you will need to find turn to the right when you get to the private property signs. The trail then goes down to the lake and on around it. There are so few known hiking options outside the state parks on Orcas that this seemed like a hidden spot.
