The road was well sanded and cleared, so any vehicle could make it to the end of the road. Please be aware that the restrooms at the Verlot Ranger Station are closed and you have to use the outhouse at the Verlot campground. The outhouse appeared to be well maintained, it had toilet paper but you will need your own hand sanitizer.
The trail was well packed down. We left the snowshoes in the car and wore yak tracks. I think you could have done this hike with just boots with a good grip. We didn’t go all the way to the ice caves, we just went to the new bridge that’s about a half mile from the picnic area. The bridge appears to have some additional improvements to it. Very pretty well trodden trail. It was chilly out so we didn’t see as many people as we expected to on the trail. When we were leaving around 2/2:30 we saw more people just arriving.
