Lena Lake — Monday, Jan. 15, 2024

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
Lena Lake by Zoenich

This was the perfect day for a hike. It was definitely freezing outside, but this was the clearest winter day I’ve seen a while. This is a beautiful winter hike, and I can’t recommend it enough. The elevation is gradual, and very tame. There was snow on the trail the further we went, but it was still relatively light compared to our surroundings. The main thing to look out for, however, is ice. We came across a few patches of ice and were able to navigate through all of them, but this was something we wish we had been aware of beforehand as it tended to sneak up on us. As another report mentions, maybe over halfway through, there is a wet part (small waterfall/stream) you have to cross, but it’s fairly easy to navigate. With the proper shoes and warm weather attire, these obstacles will be minor.

The views throughout the hike are incredible, and the forest looks like winter wonderland with the snow. Of course, the views at the lake itself are unbeatable as well.
