Happy Lunar New Year — sunrise hike this morning!
THE ROAD / PARKING
Road is perfect. Parking lot was empty when we got there around 5:30 AM. The gate to the main parking was open, though, which I was pleasantly surprised by.
When we got back to the parking lot around 9:15 AM, there were plenty more cars in the parking lot, but it was still quite empty.
THE TRAIL
Trail is in great shape. There are a couple of spots that are wet, but other than that, there are no problems.
TIMELINE
Got to the trailhead around 5:30 AM. Didn't see anyone else until we got to the viewpoint. Reached the viewpoint around 6:30 AM, then sat around for the sunrise until sometime after 8:00. Unfortunately, clouds obscured most of the actual sunrise, although we got some nice colors.
We saw plenty of folks heading up on our way down.
We walked across the dry lake bed to get back to the parking lot. Water level is very low right now.
