Marymere Falls — Friday, Feb. 16, 2024

This is a lovely day hike for anyone visiting the area. Ironically, every time that I have visited these falls, it has been in February. However, this was the best weather out of all of those visits.

There was the smallest smattering of snow on the side of the trail that I feel entirely comfortable marking this as "snow-free", as it wouldn't have any effect on the hike itself.

Make sure to dress in layers, bring extra socks, and remember that it is always a bit cold as you get closer to the falls. Wear comfortable, but supportive shoes with good traction in them, as the end of the trail (at the falls loop) it gets a bit steep and rugged.

There are plenty of Cedars and Douglas Firs that line this trail, and after fresh rain you are almost guaranteed to see some Lung Lichen on the ground (my favorite medicine to spot in the forest).

Get there early to avoid crowds, and to get an extra special show from Mother Nature as the morning mist rises off of the trees.

Note that Marymere Falls and Mt. Storm King share the same trailhead. Mt. Storm King will become visible once you are a little ways along on your hike, but it is clearly marked. Mt. Storm King is not a hike you should do if you are unprepared or under-experienced.
