There's a fabulous map made by SoCal Stair Climber (link at the end) that maps out all the stairs in Queen Anne, with mile markers and other useful things. It's roughly fifteen miles long, with some optional bits, some of which we did, some we skipped. We did two thirds on Day 1, and the last third on Day 2. The first day, Gaia tracked over 11 miles for us, probably due to the occasional wrong turn, bonus detour, and lunch at the Seattle Center. (I love the Armory, but man, 50 bucks for a lunch for two...)
Lots of daffodils and crocuses, and trees starting to blossom. So much moss on concrete stairs more than a century old. It's such a lovely neighborhood, and this is a great way to explore.
The weather was typical Seattle "Wait five minutes if you don't like it," with sun and rain and a fierce hailstorm we got through by huddling next to a bush at Kerry Park. We found a significant blowdown on a stairway near Kerry Park. That one looked older than today's storm, but plenty of other branches, small and large, looked like they'd just come down.
As for infrastructure, there's plenty of corner markets around the neighborhood, and there's always plenty of unlocked outhouses on the sidewalk where people are getting their house remodeled. We passed five!
We ended Day One of our urban hike on 15th in Interbay, getting to the bus stop with perfect timing--one of those satisfying life experiences that capped off a fun and challenging day.
Day Two we covered the final third, in the Northeast corner of Queen Anne, which is a bit easier than the rest. The weather was damp and dreary, but we had a nice break at the Burnt Coffee Company coffee shop on 15th. Overall, an excellent workout and exploration.
Gaia said we walked 16.8 miles total. It said 1393/-1397 for elevation, but that seems way too low.
