Mid-March Update: Trail is still covered in crusty packed down snow although a little slushy on top in the sunny areas. The paved road to the winter entrance is almost completely free of snow, so accessible to any vehicle. Parking was easy, not very crowded. Snowshoes are not necessary for this trail. We wore micro spikes but there were plenty of people walking without any snow gear just fine. We saw another group that pushed their stroller to the pond beach, so the snow is definitely packed down hard enough for that (although it would be a bumpy ride in some areas).
