Trip Report

Murhut Falls — Sunday, Mar. 17, 2024

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

Road in is pretty potholed. There are two lots at the trailhead. When we arrived around 11 am on a gorgeous SUNday there were only two cars. But it seems like we kicked off the rush because as we were beginning, three more cars arrived and when we returned both lots were full with cars parking on the side of the FR.

Hike is smooth with one steep section. It does flatten then descend before the falls so you must climb back up out, adding some overall ascent to the roundtrip.

The falls were actually much more impressive than I anticipated and than the pictures do justice. They are quite large, multi-tiered, and roaring. Like the description says there is a little exposure near the viewpoint - the trail is eroding a bit here, but nothing too dangerous.

Lots of kids on this trail including one large group with a stroller - though I wouldn't recommend this, too rocky and steep.

Happy Trails!
