Trip Report

Pratt Lake Basin — Sunday, Mar. 31, 2024

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area

Set out for a trail run aiming for Pratt Lake. Trailhead not very full @ 10:30am. Trail clear and breezy through the split w/ the Granite Mountain trail. Then about 3/4 of the way to the next split with Olallie Lake, the snow hits all at once. The trail is dry until it's not! Snow got deep fast, it was mostly packed where the 'trail' went, but was getting slushy where the sun hit. Slipped microspikes on and continued, but decided to turn back shortly after the split between Rainbow Lakes & Pratt Lake. I could see a 'trail', but it was steep with a slippery slope below, and the snow was a little softer than I was comfortable with. It's still do-able, but spikes & slow going are a must. Encountered many snowshoe tracks along the ridge to Rainbow Lake. Otherwise a very enjoyable outing, sun feels wonderful.
