Trip Report

Denny Creek, Melakwa Lake — Monday, Aug. 23, 1999

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Sometimes everything just comes together. It's rare that the three amigos get to join each other on a hike, so we were just beaming at the wonderful trail along Denny Creek and beautiful sunny and clear skies above. The trail is in excellent condition all the way to the lake. Crossing the low flowing (finally) Denny Creek is no problem, and all but one blowdowns have been removed. The extra 3/4 mile up to Melakwa pass is highly recommended. Although a couple of snow fields remain, they are small and an ice axe was not necessary. The top of the pass revealed views down to frozen Chair Peak lake, north to Gem lake, and on to a suprisingly clear view of Glacier Peak. It's a veiw that was worth all the effort.
