Trip Report

Middle Fork Snoqualmie River — Wednesday, Sep. 1, 1999

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
Little use by other parties during weekdays. Only 3 cars in parking lot at trail head. Trail muddy in spots, and needs brushing after 4 miles. While I was eating my lunch at the river bank, (est. 4 miles in.) a black bear came to the opposite bank, about 30-40 feet away, perhaps smelling my lunch. I had my boots off, and my feet in the river, and so I threw my food in my pack and stood up to grab my boots. I turned to glance at the bear, and saw that it had turned and was running away from the river. Also noticed 2 frogs near the trail. There was a pack team in sometime before me, judging from the horseshoe prints in the tred. Found a horseshoe, too. Bugs not too bad, only getting distracting near dusk.
