Lake Serene — Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Heather, Brandon, & I enjoyed a lovely hike to Lake Serene off of Highway 2. Soon after the junction to Bridal Veil Falls the trail climbs steeply most of the rest of the way to the lake on many well engineered staircases. Elevation gain is efficient but strenuous. This is one of the steepest trails I have encountered, but the footing is very good. The last half mile to the lake is extra rocky. Total ascent took 2 hours. But the lake is lovely with a stunning view of Mt Index's precipitous flanks. I recommend this 8 mile roundtrip hike.
