Late on Saturday afternoon my 15 year old daughter and her friend and another dad and his 9 and 11 year old boys hiked 3 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail from Chinook Pass to Dewey Lake, arriving just before dark in a sporadic rain. After pitching the tents and eating freeze dried food, we went to sleep hoping that the morning would be better. In fact we couldn't have imagined how beautiful it would be when we awoke to see the sun shining on the lake and our campsite. Blue skies, sparkling water, mountain crags, and best of all, no mosquitoes! Hiking back to the car we ate lunch beside a shallow, 1 acre pond beside the trail. Everyone wants to go back when we can spend more time.
