Trip Report

Dewey Lake — Friday, Jul. 5, 2002

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Started out from the Mesatchee Creek Trailhead but took the cutoff to Dewey Lake instead. Had to carefully and ever so slowly walk across two large logs over the American River to make it to the various sections of the trail. Phew.....but made it everytime without getting a cold water swim!!! Yahoo! We got within about a mile of Dewey Lake before we lost the trail in the snow. So close but couldn't see anymore trailblazes clearly enough. Wasn't worth getting lost. Had a beautiful hike though. Nice weather. Ran into some nice people on the trail. Saw lots of Elk and Deer tracks on the trail but saw neither of the animals. Only thing we saw of animal nature was a huge squirrel and a big frog. Will have to try this trail again when all the snow is melted out. Mosquitos weren't too bad but do take some bug spray. It is a great trail to hike.
