Trip Report
Cutthroat Lakes via Walt Bailey Trail — Friday, Sep. 13, 2002

Access rd. & trail in good shape, still lots of skeeters. Huckle & blueberries plentiful, especially on south flank of Bald Mtn. Per the SAMNBRUCE 9/9/02 Bailey post & the question about if the Bald Mtn. spur trail off the main Bailey trail goes to Ashland Lks., I think the answer is yes- but the trail isn't maintained & it's getting pretty overgrown & the tread is very narrow. There is a very faded sign where the spur starts heading west around Bald Mtn. saying it was built by the Lake City Scouts #327 Aug. '72. Kinda sad that all that work is reverting back to Ma Nature. Wonder why that troop or others can't continue maintaining it? I think the Bailey trail keeps going past the Bald Mtn./Ashland Lks. spur turnoff down to Spada Lake but Spada access might still be closed due to security concerns after 9/11.
