Trip Report
Twin Lakes (from Napeequa Crossing campground) #1503 — Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003

A short report for a short trip.
I tried to snowshoe to Twin Lakes but barely got past the Glacier Peak Wilderness marker. There weren't any obvious blowdowns or washouts. There was 12 to 18 inches of fresh snow on top of a base. Sometimes dirt showed through but that will probably be covered soon. The low cloud deck hid the views of neighboring peaks and ridges so I couldn't check for avalanche evidence. I found some at two spots along the trail. One was a beach ball sized snow burl. It was either that or a strategically placed boulder that is white and managed to get all sides of it covered in snow while it sat on snow too. The other evidence was in one of the wider chutes. Again it might have been snow covered rocks, but I didn't feel like standing in the middle of a possible avalanche chute digging into things to find out if I was in a dangerous spot.
The area looked pretty. The snow was fresh and nicely covered everything. It was a good day for photography.
Parking is a bit of an issue but the plowed portion of the road at the trailhead is more than two cars wide and there was a wider spot at the bridge but I think that is reserved, or at least should be, for the residents. I had no problem parking there.
