The trail is in great shape, not very muddy at all on this sunny day, only one blow down, an easy step-over. The avalanche paths showed no signs of any recent sliding. Lots of big trees, peek-a-boo views across the valley at Humpack Mtn, a nice lake, not too much snow. I wore my gaiters and used poles, but neither was really necessary, as the trail is compacted snow on the upper portions, pretty easy walking. Every source I checked had a different mileage listed for this hike, but the longest, the Forest Service's, at 7.9 miles round trip, seems to me to be the most likely. My favorite part of the trail is where it has been routed along a giant tree that fell on the trail in years past. I can't recall ever seeing a trail travel on top of a downed log without a stream crossing.
