Devil's Lake — Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005

Central Cascades
More like devil's mud puddle. This lake is very shallow maybe 4ft at the deapest and full of mud. looks like there was a big land slide maybe 8 years ago that could have filled it up with mud and logs. Quite a challenge to find and you better be prepared to go off trail to get there. The trail is quite over grown. If you are looking for seclusion this is the spot. It appears very few actually make it to the lake. We left the trail head Friday morn. around 10. We made a sharp left on the fist switch then sharp right on the next then went into the brush over the creek following flags. Little did we know thats too low you need to continue up on the switch backs one more set for the best route. So we made our own trail.... Once at the lake we climbed up the rock garden towards lake helena (would like to know the best way to that lake) Nice views of the lake but we didn't continue on. If you are into exploring and trail blazin then this is for you!
