Trip Report

Water Falls Loop, McKenzie River — Friday, Sep. 16, 2005

The Water Falls Loop hike is an easy 3 mile walk along the McKenzie River about 70 miles East and North of Eugene on Highway 126. KT and I started the hike at a campground where there was a sign to Koosah Falls. These falls can be seen in part from the parking area but a better view is from the trail (see first photo). From these falls the trail ascends some stairs to and about 1/2 a mile of trail to the second falls Sahalie. KT and I then walked along the river to a bridge, crossed over to the west side of the loop and followed the river down to a dam and again croosed the river and back to our car. The trip took about 1.5 hours total with stops for photos and views. The river color is a deep aqua blue that is unusually pretty. The trail was in super shape with the only caution that Bikes (Mt. Bikes) use this trail and caution needs to be taken as some areas are would not allow easy passage of both hikers and bikers.
