CCC Road: Blowout Creek Trailhead — Monday, Aug. 14, 2006
Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
A short but fun mountain-bike ride down-valley on the CCC Road/Trail revealed that the trail is barely navigable on wheels from the point it meets the Middle Fork Road down-valley to the mossy cliff. And it's UPHILL all that way, so it's a lot of huffing and puffing and cranking, but fun. The real fun begins at the mossy cliff (just an old road-cut, I think), below which it's nicely sloped downhill again and there are some nice long streches where you can just sail! It meets the Bessemer road-trail which is in great shape. The road loops downhill through nice 2nd growth, crosses a sturdy bridge, and finally meets the rutted main road at a gate. I then just rode back up the main road. A couple of hours of fun isolation and a good workout (not a soul seen on this part of the CCC, very quiet, not many views, lots of green). There's no sign where the CCC Road/Trail meets the main road going down-valley, it's just a pull-out below the big rock cliff where the main road skirts a cliff. At the downhill end on Bessemer Mt. Rd, the CCC road 'in theory' continues on but there's a huge washout at that point on the CCC, and the Bessemer just switches-back around it.
