My loyal friend Duke and I started from the trailhead at about 9:30 in the morning with only 3 other cars in the parking lot. We cruised up the trail for a mile or so and ran into 4 backpackers coming down from a longer trip, today was just a day hike for Duke and I. There are many small cricks that flow over the trail and the trail was generaly wet from our little rain storm the past couple of days.
The trail has many exposed bolders and roots sticking up so be careful, especially when its wet! I slipped on a few roots myself. After clambering up the ""mile of hell"" as someone so elequently put it, it opens up to a beautiful view of surrounding peaks and finally to Rachel Lake which has a stunning deep blue color to it. I wish I would have brought my fishing pole because there were many fish jumping out in the lake!
All in all the trip took about 4 hours with about 2 and a half of those being spent sludging up to the top. It was very worth the effort!!
