Eagle Peak Saddle — Saturday, Sep. 8, 2007

Mount Rainier Area > SW - Longmire/Paradise
The first glimpse of the peaks near Eagle Peak.
If you did not get out this weekend, what were you thinking? My nine year old and I decided to see what the Eagle Peak trail was all about. The weather was perfect and the air was about as clear as it can be in 2007. Mt. St. Helens had a nice SO2 plume and we could even see Mt. Hood off in the distance across the Columbia River. The day was amazing. It is fall. Although those alpine colors are not out just yet, the berries certainly are. This was my first hike in the National Park this year and while we encountered about half dozen very friendly people throughout the hike, there were no dogs or illegal camp locations! A nice change from the lawlessness that I have encountered in the Tatoosh and Goat Rocks this summer. The weather looks great this week so if you only have a day, the Eagle Peak Saddle is a good, half day hike for most people.
A highlight of the day, next to the actual weather!
