Trip Report

Rachel Lake, Alta Mountain — Friday, Sep. 28, 2007

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Autumn color on the trail to Rachel Lk.
Like most intelligent people we bagged our multi day plans for a quick day trip before the monsoon set in. The trail up to Rachel Lake was brushed and in perfect shape. The maple trees were in an absolute riot of color. The first encounter with snow was at 3800' with a solid covering of 2-3"" above 4500'. This was not enough to obscure the trail along the ridge to the top of Alta. From the summit cairns we had a commanding view through the fog and mist for at least 50 feet in all directions. We saw hardly anyone on the way in. but passed solid herds of folks getting in one last hike before winter on the way out.
