Road to upper trailead is open with some snow still in parking lot. We started hiking Sunday around 11:00am in a light mist with temp around 45 deg. The first mile and a half is basically free of snow with a couple trees across the trail. The next mile and a half up to and around Windy Camp has a fair amount of snow on the ground; in places still three to four feet but trail is easy to find. Between Windy Camp and Silver Lake trail cutoff, trail is harder to find because people have plunged off in several directions trying to find the trail. A short ways past the Silver Lake cutoff, the trail is open up to the summit ridge with one snowny area a couple hundred feet below the summit ridge. The summit ridge itself is free of snow.
In classic Mt. Townsend fashion, fog and mist swirled over the ridge with blue sky and the sun breaking through at times. Nice to get warm before heading back down into the mist.
