It was a nice sunny day, and a very pretty hike. We did not make it down to the lake due to snow. The slopes down to the lake were still covered with a significant amount of snow so we stayed up on the saddle. There were also small snow patches on the trail up to the saddle that required careful walking. Hiking poles were handy, but we saw many hikers up there with tennis shoes and no poles. There were a few small stream crossings of no significance. One caution. As we explored up on the saddle, one of our hikers sank into a hidden hole in the snow up to her thigh. She was at least two feet away from a protruding rock, but still there was a hole there. I suspect the snow patches on the trail going up will be gone in a couple of weeks. I can’t guess on the melting of the snow around the lake. We saw very few mosquitoes. Unless you are looking for a totally dry trail, I still highly recommend this one due to the very pretty views of the lake, the surrounding ridges, several waterfalls, and flowers.
