Coal Mines Trail — Monday, Aug. 18, 2008

Got this hike from a 'Hiking with Kids' book - I'm using it to find easy hikes to take my mom on. From the description I expected we'd find a historic trail with lots of mining relics to view along the way. Not the case - there isn't much to see (except broken signposts!). It would be a great local trail for running, horseback riding, etc. but didn't seem like it was worth a day trip. A shop owner in Rosyln told us that the trail had changed considerably in the last two years due to housing developments alongside it. According to him, much of what was interesting to see has been removed. We didn't get the brochure that was aluded to in the guide (available at Cle Elum Chamber of Commerce) - that may increase the interest level.
