Trail Conditions

Obstacles on trail:
    Overgrown in places.
Great easy hike to beautiful alpine lake teeming with Cutthroat trout. The trail is mostly in 2nd growth & old growth forest, that pops out into subalpine basin clearing, with a meandering stream that drains the lake. Nice campsites ring the lake, and well maintained rustic mining cabin is situated at end of the lake for an ideal view of Merchant Peak. Some biting flies and a few mosquitos, but a nice wind kept them at bay. Beware: There is an active bee(wasp/hornets?) nest on the trail and they are very aggressive. (It is located on the first 1/3rd of the trail.) Trail is in good condition and no snow remains at lake altitude. Negligible elevation gain, but trailhead is overgrown and a bit tricky to find.
