WTA is hiring! A big thanks to everyone who joined us for Hike-a-Thon this August! This Saturday is National Public Lands Day; parking fees will be waived in some areas, and some celebration events will be held. Now hiring: WTA is currently hiring for a policy and planning manager, a digital content coordinator and a marketing manager to support our mission. Apply now to join our team of collaborative and fun individuals committed to the care of Washington trails and public spaces.
Hike-a-Thon wrap-up: Hike-a-Thon 2022 was WTA's second largest Hike-a-Thon ever! 521 participants came together to raise $212,113 for trails. Thank you to everyone who made Hike-a-Thon part of their summer and we hope you can join us for the 20th anniversary next year. Free day: This Saturday, September 24, is National Public Lands Day! It's a day of appreciation for public lands, with many opportunities to get out and give back to these special spaces through volunteer trail work. Parking fees will be waived on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Forest Service, Washington Department of Natural Resources, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and Washington State Parks. The Forest Service and Olympic National Park will be holding some community and volunteer events to celebrate the holiday. And find even more volunteer events on the National Environmental Education Foundation website.
Bridge replacement: The bridge over Ravensdale Creek in the Black Diamond Open Space near Maple Valley will be out of use for the month of October for a replacement project. There will be days during October when the parking lots off SR-169 and trails near the bridge will be closed. The new bridge and trail access will be open for use on November 1.
Smoke and wildfires continue: With multiple large fires still burning throughout the Pacific Northwest, check the status of closures due to wildfires by contacting the appropriate ranger station and be sure to check the air quality index before heading out this weekend.
