How Kaf Adventures is helping climbers reach new heights and give back to trails

WTA and Kaf Adventures have been partnering since 2017 to help give back to trails and further skills in the outdoors.

In 2017, Kaf Adventures, a Washington-based outdoors skills course and guide company, came to WTA with a unique opportunity to support trails. Owner and founder Mick Pearson had the idea to make their guided Mount Rainier summit trip a charity climb. Not only would participants be learning mountaineering skills and attempting to summit Washington’s highest peak, but they would also be making a commitment to give back to trails by raising funds for WTA.

“Access to climbs in Washington State is so important. Supporting WTA is at the heart of our mission— community, education, and adventure!” Mick said. “We love the work that the WTA does for the community and the passionate people who put so much time and effort into the mission. Having an opportunity to build community and skills with the hiking community is a perfect synergy for us!"

Since the beginning of WTA and Kaf’s partnership, climbers have raised over $66,000 for WTA. These funds go towards improving and maintaining hiking trails in Washington, including those within Mount Rainier National Park. Last summer, WTA crews removed downed trees and repaired 3 miles of trail surface on the lesser known West Boundary Trail, expanding hiking opportunities in the park. WTA crews have also made improvements to more frequented trails like the Skyline Trail Loop and Wonderland Trail

WTA and Kaf Adventures will once again be partnering in 2025. This year’s climb will take place July 20-23 and includes a required 3-day glacier mountaineering skills course on Mount Baker earlier in the month. The Baker climb is an opportunity to build both the technical and safety skills necessary to summit Mount Rainier with an experienced guide while also building camaraderie with fellow climbers. We’re thankful for the continued partnership with Kaf Adventures and the climbers who help support WTA’s mission to mobilize hikers and everyone who loves the outdoors to explore, protect and champion trails.
