It's Halloween! We asked you to share trip reports from your costumed, spooky hikes. Here are a few of them.
BOO! It's Halloween!
We asked you to share trip reports from your costumed, spooky hikes. Folks hit the trails in witchy cloaks, pumpkin garb, brightly colored tutus, ghostly sheets, mushroom hats and more in celebration of Halloween. Here are a few of them.
Monte Cristo Ghost Town
This fun friend bunch went to check out a ghost town — very appropriate for the season! Photo by Peace4Mel.
"The Fall foliage is outstanding right now with vine maple blasting color. The history of the site is very interesting and worth looking into before your hike."
Peace4Mel and friends took a spine-tingling group hike to the Monte Cristo Ghost Town. The old abandoned buildings and gray gloomy skies made it a particularly suitable atmosphere for a Halloween hike!
Big Tree Trail
Tutus and leis made everyone on this hike fabulous — including the dog! Photos by TrailKat and MyFriendsCallMeT.
"Beware, however, of wandering these woods in late October, close to Halloween! As these three unsuspecting TuTu'd hikers learned, the stories of the Woodsy Witch of the Western Larch Forest are true!"
Both TrailKat and MyFriendsCallMeT (along with Holly, WTA's senior Eastern Washington regional coordinator) spent the day hiking the Big Tree Trail. With their colorful tutus and big "wolf dog," this hiking group would have been hard to miss on trail.
Hiram M. Chittenden - Ballard Locks
Talk about a big troll! Photo by Joseph Gonzalez.
"The park itself is clean and seasonally crisp. We enjoyed the large pumpkin and scarecrow photo area."
WTA's digital content coordinator, Joseph Gonzalez, took some visiting family members to check out Seattle, which included a stop at Hiram M. Chittenden – Ballard Locks to see the big wooden troll by Thomas Dambo.

"Fungi galore! Halloween vibes on this trail, for sure."
Peace4Mel got out on another Halloween hike on the CCC Road along the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River, where the mushrooms they saw along the way really made it feel like fall.
Snow LAkes

"Trail was in great shape and the fall colors are beautiful with the snow capped mountains. Be safe out there."
TrailKat celebrated both the eve of Halloween and their birthday on a hike to Snow Lakes with a couple of friends. They caught some fall foliage, beautiful weather and a few ghost sightings.
Heather Park
You might expect to see a spider on trail, but it's rare to see a skeleton and tiger. Photo by Julie Metzger.
"Beautiful fall day for a Halloween hike with friends."
Julie Metzger and co. — a skeleton, spider and tiger — set out for a fun hike through the forest, where they got in a leg workout and saw two deer.

"When your friends are as crazy as you are — you are living a good life. I proposed a costumed hike today as Halloween is approaching."
A blast from the past! In 2021, WalkieTalkie and a group of hiking friends made their way to Garfield Ledges, where the rain and foggy weather made some for ghostly mountain silhouettes in the background — perfect for dressing up for Halloween.
The fun doesn't have to stop at Halloween! We want to see your trip reports from your festive hikes all year long — whether you're sporting cozy holiday sweaters, hitting the trail with family or ringing in the new year outdoors.
