Lake Ann (Mount Baker Highway) — Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area

A beautiful scenic hike. It does violate the prime directive of NW hiking, it starts going down the ridge and across the meadow. One you cross the meadows it traverses the side of a forested ridge, then starts going up. This is Shuksans hike, but Baker does put in an appearance as you climb the ridge heading into the lake basin. The lake is pretty, but not stunning, but you are RIGHT NEXT to Mt. Shuksan with a full view of the Curtis glacier. WOW! There is some nice trailwork on this trail, that once you've done a few work crews, you can sure appreciate. Lots of flowers and berries, my husband saw a bear working a few bushes.
