The road up to the trail is very rough with a lot of large rocks. We ended up parking the car at the gate and hiking up the last .8 mile because my car was taking a beating. If you drive a low clearance vehicle here take it slow or walk in to the trail. On our way up to the trailhead we encountered a rattlesnake that we couldn't see but could hear was very close and sounded full grown. Luckily the road is wide enough to just avoid it. At the trailhead I walked right past a small rattlesnake that was too young to make much noise, but luckily it just slithered away. After that we didn't see any more snakes. The trail is wide and in great condition. The views at the top are breathtaking and the wildflowers are continuing to bloom all along the way. All in all a great hike!
