Big Four Ice Caves — Sunday, Jul. 20, 2014

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
The caves as they look now
We checked out the Ice Caves, as we were in the area. I can't believe the 'trail' , pretty darn cushy trail. Not really a hike unless you're five, but nice for young families and out of town visitors. The caves are visible and as usual the Darwin Award contestants are climbing around on top and underneath. People have been killed here by avalanches in winter and collapsing snow in summer! The trail I remember is still visible in parts underneath and beside the new path. The old hotel site is nice for lunch. Forest Pass required and they ARE checking.
Bench and cushy trail
nice stand of fireweed, watch for hummingbirds!
