Contest Rules

An official entry form must be completed for each photograph submitted for a TOTAL OF FOUR PHOTOS ONLY per photographer.

Lowe Pro Camera Bags will be awarded for the top three entrants in each category.

Photographers may submit only one photo in each of four categories:

  • Wilderness Landscapes - Washington’s wilderness areas have some of the most scenic and spectacular locations anywhere in the world. Photos must be taken of or from federally designated wilderness areas in Washington.
  • Hikers in Action - This is your chance to showcase hikers doing their thing, from ascending a trail to enjoying the perfect backcountry camp.
  • Flora and Fauna - Share your best photos of native plants or animals found on hiking trails—from pikas to bears, from trilliums to lupine.
  • Offbeat Outdoors  - Send us your crazy, weird, or humorous photos taken on the trails of Washington state.
  • Young Photographers - Photographers 17 years old and younger (on Oct. 17, 2008) share their images taken from hiking trails in Washington state. They may also enter in the other categories.

All entries are due no later than Friday, October 17, 2008.

Awards will be selected by a panel of judges, and all decisions are final. The contest is open to all photographers, except for Washington Trails Association employees, contest judges and their families. Photographs must be taken in Washington. Entrants agree to allow Washington Trails Association to publish any submitted photograph in its magazine, web site or other publications.

Entries may be submitted in one of the following formats:

  • digital photo in JPEG format (submit online now)
  • 35 mm color slide
  • an 8 by 10 inch color print

Higher resolution photos are at an advantage—optimal resolution is 300 dpi with a width of 9 by 11 inches, or approximately 2700 x 3300 pixels. Digital files may be submitted on a CD by mail or online.

Judges may exclude entries that do not meet the above criteria. Because of the high number of entries, we cannot return photos. Do not send originals.
