I did my first backpack at age 14 through the Enchanted Valley in the Olympics. Then I took the Tacoma Mountaineers climbing course and did many climbs through high school and college. In 2002, due to a knee injury, I switched to just hiking and backpacking, finishing the PCT in 2013.
