Hiking Salt Creek Recreation Area

The Salt Creek Recreation Area just outside of Port Angeles has several small trails in and around the camping area for folks to explore, and connects hikers to the nearby Striped Peak trail.

There is access to the beach from the campground. There are stairs, but the rest of the descent require a short stretch of rock scrambling.

There is alternative access to the beach area with a gentler approach. To reach it, exit the campground and return to Camp Hayden/Crescent Beach Road. Turn right (west). There will be two parking areas on your right. The first is larger. The second is smaller and next to an outhouse. From there, you can head north for tidepooling around the island that is exposed at low tide or at Tongue Point.

Note: Crescent Beach farther west is private and requires a day use fee.
