Perfect day for a deep canyon hike. This one is a workout. The first mile is fairly easy going, although persistently uphill. The second mile is a little rootier and rockier, with more blowdown. Most of the large logs have been cut, but there are still a few in the way and require a maneuver to pass. The section just before the long foot log over the creek is very brushy.
The trail does resume on the other side. Follow the path straight, then right to the camp site. The long log next to the fire pit will lead you to into bramble, but there is a path on the ground at its tip. The brush is bad, but soon the path works up the hill and is more visible. It ends by a nice, flat valley bottom with gravel bars and pools. Eight elk went tromping away when I arrived.
