Tatoosh Lookout, Tatoosh Lakes & Tatoosh Ridge — Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020

South Cascades > White Pass/Cowlitz River Valley

Took our ice axes for a lovely stroll: the snow that was here 2 weeks ago is all gone. Also the meadows are exploding with wildflowers with bees buzzing all around and pollenating. A few mosquitos and biting flies (in particular by the lakes) but not too bad.

If you are very against constantly brushing against different plants (e.g. minor allergies?), long pants might be advisable as the trail can be quite narrow. The narrowness also made it harder to pass people while still maintaining social distancing but we did our best while also not trampling the budding foliage.

There were also plenty of hunters on the trail. Not sure what the hunting season boundaries are but consider wearing bright clothes/backpack as a precaution.

Shouldn't be running into hunters yet - the only thing that is open right now is coyote which is year round but I don't see the Tatoosh high country as coyote territory. Bear is open but only in eastern WA. Strange that you say you ran into multiple hunters.....

Turns out the bear hunting was legal

So according to this site: https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/summary-of-seasons/fall-bear
GMU 513 opened to bear hunting 8/1 so the hunters were out there legally. There were likely a lot of hunters there because it was opening day
