Carne Mountain High Route, Leroy Creek High Route — Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020

Central Cascades > Entiat Mountains/Lake Chelan

We did the high route—in via Carne Mountain, out via Leroy. Left Seattle at 430a, on the trail by 8a. The road is... the same. Not good. Fair number of vehicles at the TH. On the trail: Ran into few folks up high, more down low on the Phelps Creek trail exiting

Overall, a perfect day. Clear views of Glacier Peak, the Entiat peaks, etc. The trail along parts of the route was pretty easy to follow, and route finding in the off-trail portions was relatively straightforward. No snow to cross, though there is still a bit near the saddle to Ice Lakes/in the basin on the east side of Maude. Wildflowers starting to fade in places, but still (surprisingly) strong overall! Plenty of water along the way but the basins up high are on the drier side. Highly recommended!

Stats: 14.3 miles, 5300ft, all the peaks around in perfectly clear weather, and a handful of berries along the way.
