Say what you will about trip reports bringing more people onto trails this is what I love about them. When would I have ever considered checking out this little trail system in an urban setting without the great report by austineats?
I wish it were Spring as his flower pictures were surprising. As it is my seven and two year old loved this hike. After starting on a hard surface trail (wheelchair accessible) we found a dirt trail that switchbacked up to the highest bald with views north, west, and south from the loop at the top which would have a view of Rainier on a clear day. There's a few benches to rest there and it's roughly paved. Then we took a nice stair stepped trail that curves down east to north and then west to meet back up with the accessible trail. On the way back we went up another small bald opposite of where we took the original dirt trail up that had views to the river.
Both balds have beautiful madrone. There are sharp drop offs so holding small hands is a must. The two year old loves airplanes so he especially enjoyed watching the jets heading to Seatac.
