Tiger Mountain Trail South — Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020

Issaquah Alps > Tiger Mountain

We visited a little known train wreck site on Tiger Mountain accessed via the South TMT.  This side of Tiger is a "working forest" so expect to see several ugly recent clearcuts along the way.  At least the second growth forest that has not been cut is very nice in places.

The train wreck occurred in 1925 when an overloaded logging train jumped the tracks.  One person was killed in the wreck.  The wreckage includes 2 pairs of wheels, assorted suspension parts and the remnants of a track layer. For more information:  https://www.trailchick.com/tiger-mountain-1925-train-crash-site/

The trail was very wet and squishy most of the way.  Not a very exciting trail but the train wreck site was interesting.  The turn off for the train wreck is unmarked so refer to my All Trails tracing to find it.

Wow, that's cool. Something new to check out on Tiger - thanks for the heads-up, Maddy!

And those new sections of clear-cuts are awful. I do not like that multiple parts of the TMT are now a road-walk. Yuck!

Ups n Downs on Tiger Mountain Trail South

Last time we were there a few years ago there was the foundation for a new bridge across the creek just beyond the artifacts and a newly built trail up the hillside. There was also some steel beams with 'Iverson Connecter' on it further up the trail so we assumed this would eventually loop back. Did you happen to notice a bridge there?

Yes, there is a brand new bridge over the creek. We did not go beyond the bridge however
