Sunday 4/11 we went up Deer Ridge and experienced a little bit of everything - sun, fog and snow. Thankfully no rain though. We made it about 4.7 miles up (about 1 mile past the National Park boundary) before deciding to throw in the towel after trailblazing through intermittent knee-deep powder for more than an hour with only our microspikes. Trail was an alternating mixture of mud, sheet ice, and fresh powder. With a little bit of extra motivation we could have made it all the way but the clouds had moved in and we decided we were over it. I don’t think snowshoes would have been required although they might have helped during the last half mile.
